Just getting close to the airship was dangerous.
William was afraid of attracting fire from the Zeppelin’s machine guns, as well as ‘friendly fire’ from the ground.
Searchlights panned the sky and flak guns shot at anything caught in their beam.
The flak guns’ shells exploded in mid-air and sent lethal shrapnel through any airship – or aeroplane – nearby.
William swooped in and machine-gunned the huge airship.
One ammunition drum was gone.
No effect.
Maybe the new ammunition did not work. William eased off the throttle and hid in a cloud while he clipped on another drum of bullets.
